Regional Education Symposium 2011

SUCCESSFUL Regional Education Symposium 2011

Regina’s Prairie Gold Chorus stepped up to take on the challenge of hosting the first ever Regional Education Symposium held this past August at the campus of the University of Regina.  Summer plans were put on hold, committees formed and chorus members rolled up their sleeves and went to work to pull it all together.  From accommodation to session rooms to food service to resource staff, every effort was made to provide a first class facility for the approximately 100 attendees.

The University of Regina campus is a magnificent venue with residences, food court, class rooms and auditorium all within close proximity.  Special mention must go to Bev Liski and Denise Lindenbach who both work at the university. Their knowledge of the facility and personal contacts made it possible to have risers for a small fee, a lounge area for the faculty and meeting rooms for the RMT as well as other perks. This four day event concluded with a show and after glow featuring a mix of quartets, choruses, skits and a local boys’ youth chorus.

A concerted effort was made to keep expenses to a minimum.  Grants were received from Sing Canada Harmony as well as the City of Regina, Prairie Gold is happy to announce a profit of  $3,655.20 to be turned over to the region.   Attendees voiced their approval in all areas of this event, specifically the venue, the faculty, services and general organization.  People came, they sang, they learned, they had a good time!  This event was a resounding success.  Prairie Gold is proud of the part they played in that success and grateful for the opportunity to have hosted the very first RES.

Education Class 2008 - Membership and Marketing

We want to help you keep your choruses strong and healthy. Marketing strategies and Membership attraction and retention are at the top of everyone's list when it comes to chorus health. The Education Class at Convention focused on these issues, and was open to everyone in our region. It  replaced the Small Chorus Forum originally scheduled for Friday morning. We encouraged members of small, mid-sized and large choruses to attend.

Our goal was to provide all choruses with new marketing and membership ideas.  We want to hear from YOU about what kinds of strategies are working out there in the real world!  If you have had  a membership drive or a marketing strategy that has been particularly successful, please write it up and send it to Paulette Davies, editor of the Membership Buzz.  Share your success stories with others - be a Sweet Adeline evangelist!
