Christmas with Arbutus Sounds 2019

Christmas time with Arbutus Sounds Chorus is filled with the joy of sharing our music with so many in our community.  We begin our sing-outs early in December at the Gibsons Heritage Theatre with the local Coast Cable Telethon, joining other community performers to help raise money for many needy charities right here in our own back yard.

One of our most rewarding days is spent at the seniors homes and extended care facilities in both of our local towns of Gibsons and Sechelt. The residents of these care homes will sometimes surprise the staff by responding to the Christmas carols and maybe sing along or nod or tap to the songs from years past. What a thrill to know we have brightened their day just a little.  We always come away from this day feeling thankful for the power of music buried deep within everyone of us.

An afternoon at the Trail Bay Mall in Sechelt is our chance to connect with children and families out shopping and visiting Santa. We feel like wandering minstrels as we go from one end to the other singing our most popular Christmas songs with lots of jingle bells and smiles in our Santa hats and reindeer antlers.

Then our show! Yes, after a busy sing-out schedule we top it all off with a very special weekend. With the help of our very talented script writers we will weave our most favorite Christmas songs around 'Traditions of Christmas' with stories of Christmas past contributed by our own members.  These shows bring together our families and friends who support us through out the year. We are always so proud to showcase our hard work and dedication to musical harmony and the love and friendship we enjoy as members of Arbutus Sounds Chorus.

Please join us on either Saturday, December  14th, 2:30 to 3:30 pm at St John's United Church in Davis Bay or in Gibsons Sunday Dec. 15th at the Calvary Baptist Church 2:30 to 3:30 pm. Come early as seating is limited.

Congratulations!

It was a proud moment for the Arbutus Sounds chorus and particularly for our director Connie Johnston when she recently qualified as a Sweet Adelines 'Certified Director'.  A lot of hard work and dedication and many months of studying are now behind her as she leads the chorus to new heights using her newfound knowledge and ever-present enthusiasm.  The chorus presented Connie with a special plaque to commemorate this achievement and looks forward to working hard, together in harmony, under her direction as we prepare for a busy Christmas season and a spring show in 2020.      Congratulations Connie!
