Remembering Yvette Jaspar

On December 19, 2020 Yvette Jaspar, Saskatoon Magic City Chorus member, died suddenly from a brain aneurysm. Our deepest sympathy to her husband Rob and children David (Kelly), Michelle (Jory and four-month-old baby Jay), Danielle (Lance) and her one sibling, brother Mel (Truann) from Vancouver. Yvette had so many chorus sisters as well. Yvette’s death has been a shock to all of us and our grief made more difficult since we cannot gather together as sisters in harmony, to hug each other, sing together or reminisce in person. The chorus held a virtual Celebration of Life on January 5 with former and current members of the chorus.
Yvette joined Magic City Chorus in 1995 and just received her 25-year longevity pin. Yvette joined the chorus as a Lead but soon found her home with the Baritones. Yvette loved Magic City Chorus and she loved performing. This exuded from every pore. We all enjoyed the twinkle in her eye and her witty humour.
Chorus was not enough for Yvette so she started quartetting. Yvette was also very active in the administration side of the chorus.
We all reaped the benefits of Yvette’s thoughtful leadership, attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills as President, show chairperson, party planner, script writer, rules and bylaw queen, membership coordinator, and Official Panel Liaison at contest. Yvette’s caring nature was seen in her development of the Angel Fund. Her fund helped many chorus members attend regional contests. The chorus honoured Yvette in 2011 by nominating her as the Region 26 Spirit of 26 Honouree because she epitomized spirit, strength, leadership, humour, and joy in all she did.
Yvette made everyone feel special, that was one of her precious gifts. Yvette was also known as a skillful and dedicated gift giver! Yvette truly was, and is, a gift to all of us. Yvette’s final “gift of giving” was her organ donations. Yvette provided a miracle to other families at Christmas.
Yvette was a genuinely caring and compassionate person who loved and gave so much to her family, her chorus, her friends, and all of God’s creatures. We’re glad we laughed, and loved, and sang (oh how we sang) together.
